While pregnant with my first child I took a Bradley class which drew me toward a passion for educating families and supporting them through the journey of labor. I welcomed hundreds of families into my living room over the course of nearly 2 decades (and still do); many of them honored me with an invitation onto their birth team as a doula. These families and their struggles to find truly supportive caregivers ignited my passion for midwifery care. As I contemplated the “next steps” in my career (and finally getting all of my kids off to school!), a good friend of mine asked me what it would be like for me if didn’t attend birth any longer. Just the thought caught my breath. I couldn’t imagine not being there. It was then that I realized that despite the obstacles before me, I needed to become a midwife.

I chose Bastyr University for its reputation for academic rigor, its compassionate social justice focus and the opportunity to receive the highest level of education for direct-entry midwives in the country. I trained at two busy home and birth center practices, under more than a dozen incredibly skilled and loving CNMs, CPMs, and ND/LMs. My midwifery education was an unmatched mixture of training in the ancient art of midwifery rooted in a foundation of evidence-based practice and family-centered care. I learned from strong models of positive, collaborative working relationships with local physicians, hospitals, birth professionals, as well as alternative care providers. This is the foundation I bring to my practice.

When I’m not doing midwifery related things, you can find me enjoying my family, a good meal, and some great wine while exploring the beauty of this wonderful world we live in. [Or…more often, being a spectator at yet another sporting event with one of our four busy boys.]

“Lynette was an incredibly positive force in our birth story. She is calm and encouraging during birth and I felt safe and powerful as I brought my son into the world. I tell people giving birth is the most empowering thing I’ve ever done, and Lynette was a big part of making that my reality. I’m so thankful for her.”
